Why add news at all
News gives people a reason to open your app today, not just when they need something. A feed about the thing your users care about, like their market, their city, or their team, keeps them coming back.
The hard part has always been writing it. You need someone on the beat every day, and someone else to check their work. That’s the job Newsroom does for you.
1. Name your beat
Write down what your users care about in plain words. Narrow is better than broad.
- “Rate decisions and big market moves”
- “City council and housing in Springfield”
- “Injuries and lineups for one league”
2. Pick sources you trust
Your stories can only be as good as what they’re built from. Start with official sources, like agency releases, filings, and public records. Add good news sites as support. Block anything you wouldn’t want quoted.
Newsroom tests each feed before it’s used, and a blocked source never makes it into a story.
3. Pick a story size
Match the story to the space it lives in.
- Ticker, 35–80 words: widgets, alerts, and small cards
- Feed item, 120–250 words: lists and home feeds
- Brief, 400–800 words: story pages and newsletters
- Analysis or full story: deep reads and paid content
4. Get stories into your app
Ask for a story in the Console or with one API call. Then pull your feed as JSON, or get each story by signed webhook once it passes its check.
Every story arrives with its title, summary, body, the AI disclosure, and the links it was built from.
5. Design the feed
Keep it simple. Show the time, the headline, and a one-line summary. Label stories as AI-written. Readers trust a feed that’s upfront about where stories come from.
What it costs
The plan is $59 a month. Each story that ships has a set price, from 20¢ for a ticker to $30 for a full story. Stories that fail their check are held and cost nothing.
Ten feed items a day comes to about $149 a month, plan included.
