Your sources are your facts

Newsroom only writes from the sources you add. Pick them like you’d pick reporters’ contacts: the closer to the event, the better.

Lead sources

The people who make the news. Agencies, courts, companies, leagues, and public records. These should carry most stories.

  • Government and agency releases
  • Company filings and investor pages
  • League and team reports
  • Meeting minutes and public records

Support sources

Good news sites that add context. They can back up a fact, but you can require a lead source for key claims.

Blocked sources

Anything you don’t want in a story. A blocked source is never used, not even as a hint. Forums, rumor sites, and social posts usually belong here.

Examples by beat

  • Markets: Fed releases and SEC filings lead, a business newswire supports, market blogs are blocked
  • Local: clerk minutes and permit filings lead, the local paper supports, community forums are blocked
  • Sports: league injury reports lead, beat writers support, fan forums are blocked

How sources get added

Add any public RSS feed. Newsroom tests each one before it’s used, so a broken or empty feed never makes it into a story. You can turn a source off at any time.
